Play Up, Play Hard

May 2022

Parents and Players,

Thank you for playing in the Doc's Spring program that just ended yesterday.  By recommendation of the coaches, we have some more competitive lacrosse for your sons in the early part of the summer.

We would like to invite your son to play for LC New York in our 2022 Summer (May 24-June 19) season. Separate but connected with Doc's NYC, LC New York is a high-level year round travel program founded/directed by Mat Levine, Max Seibald and Rob Pannell in 2013-14.  As most of you know, Max is a former Cornell All-American, Tewaaraton Award winner, Team USA player, and professional star.  Rob, also a Cornell All-American and Tewaaraton Winner, is now the leading attackman on Team USA and in the Premier Lacrosse League.

LC New York Summer practices during the week (weeknights) and plays in weekend competitive summer club tournament schedule against teams from all over the tri state area. As of right now, the summer program will consist of 8 practices beginning the week of May 23 and go for the next 4 weeks.  Besides our regular coaches and directors, we will have guest appearances from professional level coaches over that time during the weekday practices (see schedule below). Our LC New York teams will be playing in summer tournaments/games on the weekends of June 4-5, 11-12, and 18-19 (most of the tournaments are one day events; see detailed schedule below). The cost of the program will be $1200 and it includes all tournament fees, our director-designed LC New York uniforms, an LC New York Team Bag, and other exclusive LC New York gear.

Since inception, the goal of the LCNY Directors is to provide a competitive summer New York City-based club program (we are the only one) in the beginning of the summer before everyone moves on with the rest of summer activities. Competitive, convenience, and sensitive to family summer schedules.  While we love to win games, we focus on making sure your son has a quality experience playing for the program and leave a smarter, more skilled lacrosse player.

Many of our roster spots were filled back in the fall when we start the program.  For the summer season, we have some roster spots open. Your son is being offered a roster spot for the summer tournament season via this letter.  Follow up immediately in one of two ways:

  1. Register.  Go to www.lcnewyork.com, set up an account (this is different than your Doc's NYC account).  Then register by providing all the necessary information that goes into our LC New York system.  When you reach the payment button, hit submit without paying the fee.  The fee for just the summer season is $1200.  Mail a check for $1200 to LC New York, 65 West 89th Street; New York, NY 10024, attn. Hadley Mongell.

  1. Questions.  Please email or call Mat at 917-957-4409 if you are interested to have your son join us.

Please note, we need players to commit to the full summer season (all practices and tournaments).  We start our 2-day per week practices Tuesday, May 24, 6PM, Randall's Island, Field 83.

Yours in lacrosse,

Max Seibald, Rob Pannell and Mat Levine.

LCNY Value Added.  Besides our regular curriculum, here is a list of specific skillsets and facets of the game the LC New York Directors believe ALL our players need to develop further and what we will teach to, if we are to become more competitive:

  • Ball handling/control under pressure on offense and defense
  • Intensity, especially on ground balls and in the defensive “heart” section in front of our goalie
  • Creating shooting attempts off individual dodges and through off ball cutting; converting our shots
  • Recognition/Quick Reaction--knowing “where to be/go” during game situations (fast breaks; settled offense; clearing;  riding;  substitutions;  defensive positioning and sliding; effective movement without the ball)
  • Inter-Player Execution—connecting with our passing/catching up and down field with consistency and speed
  • Communication/Chemistry:  In specific game situations, knowing what/how to communicate with each other and trusting each other
  • Individual Work/Study.  Taking time to build individual skills (wall ball, etc); taking time to attend in person or watch high level college and professional games to better understand and learn about the game
  • Commitment/Accountability.  Fulfilling all responsibilities of being on a LC New York team as a life lesson
